BARISTA ON DUTY: DOPPIO
RECEIPT FILED AS: C-DOTD-04
Carajillo is not doing well. I’m sure you could all tell by his receipt, but I’ve been speaking with him, and I can tell that this endless dancing is affecting his mental state a bit. Mm, more than just his mental state, I suppose. His fire powers are not his own but a “gift” from his “Golden Father.” He is no witch nor practitioner. He is, of course, a warlock. A warlock of the Wicked King Draped in Yellow Flames. I can’t say that I know much of the Wicked, though from what I’ve heard and read, dancing is among the things those who worship the Wicked King tend to avoid. To dance is to feed the inner fire, to call forth the “gift” of their patron, the gift of Xanthic Flame.
We don’t want that to happen for many reasons. Xanthic Fire, one of apparently seven sacred flames, is known for distorting reality with a horrid hallucinogenic effect. Under normal conditions, this is already unpleasant. Feeling the veil between this Universe and the worlds that lie outside of it melt around you is more than enough to drive many to madness. However, adding to that a pocket removed from the flow of time, well… it could be rather dangerous if poor Carajillo bursts. Thankfully, stopping this wretched music was already on the agenda. No offense, my Darkness, it is simply too much of a good thing, of course.
Stopping Mr. Hamelin will stop the dancing and stop the Xanthic Flame within Carajillo from worsening. Stopping Mrs. Ligeia will stop new tourists from coming in, stopping the Ballast from growing and the time bubble’s effects from weakening. Stopping Mr. Rilke will probably do something, though I am uncertain what exactly. Stopping Marocchino would be of no effect. At least, I hope she is not contributing to this madness beyond her very talented playing. And as for Mrs. Weyer, well, he is hardly playing much himself as is. He’s been taking frequent breaks to serve cocktails and mingle. But our best chance would likely be when Mrs. Weyer is preoccupied.
