Summary of Receipt

Payroll does some investigating into the nature of the Mechanism. It's the true version of the Antikythera Mechanism - the real one is a fake. It allows someone to be able to track the Othersode's movements, which is impossible otherwise without an 'Augur'. And that's just a side feature. Its real ability is to track things, somehow. Payroll suspects it's anachronistic, which would explain why Nom De Plume's so obsessed over it.

So, I’ve done some more research on this Antikythera Mechanism, whatever. I guess it’s like an actual Flipside thing. Well, sorta. So, like there is a thing called the Antikythera Mechanism that was found on a shipwreck off of Antikythera in 1901. And it is/was an orrery (fancy old people computer that tracks the solar system ig). However, that’s more or less where the Flipside side story ends. Sure, it’s rad that there was like a computer in 150 BC… but this Antikythera Mechanism is way, WAY older.

So, yes, it’s confusing that we’re calling THE Mechanism the Antikythera Mechanism because that’s not really its name. It just describes what it is. And even then, the Antikythera Mechanism found in 1901 was like a cheap replica of the real deal. The most notable difference between the Mechanism and the knock-off mechanism found near Antikythera is that the real Mechanism didn’t only track the sun and moon… but the entire Otherside as well. I know, I know, can’t our CaDComs do that? No. They can’t. We don’t have a way to track where the Otherside is in relation to the Flipside without using an Augur. No one has EVER had a way to accurately track the Otherside’s movements… except apparently, this Mechanism could.

Of course, that’s just like a cool extra feature. The main event of the Mechanism seems to be its ability to find things. How? No clue. I don’t know if you just like speak into it and it knows what you mean or if you have to like program it in or what. Because, again, this Mechanism was made pre 150 BC… so… it’s gotta be crazy advanced. Or… I guess it could be anachronistic. Isn’t that like thing that gets the Society all hot and bothered? Anachronistic trinkets and books? No wonder they’re so into this thing. At the very least, it’d be way more advanced than what our CaDComs can do in regard to positioning data. I’m with the Manager. It would be nice to have that kinda tech. Especially if it means we wouldn’t have to deal with Augurs ever again. Now we just gotta find the thing.
