The Society of Nom de Plume is such a pain to reach out to. They don't have a "normal" means of communication—no—you have to write to them. In a book. Any book published by Bodley Head, Jonathan Cape, or Chatto & Windus prior to 1987. The page you write on needs to match the date. It's all a rather tedious process, and by the end of it, the air is thick with the scent of aged parchment and ink. Some people don't mind that smell—I prefer something less… dusty and confined.

At least it works. I got a response from the Society, and it confirmed my suspicions; they too have been extended an invitation to this dubious Masquerade Ball. They were apparently invited by Hoffmann in person back in the United Kingdom. This whole gathering reeks of subterfuge. Payroll's right, it's a trap. It has to be. However… if the Society is also set to attend, it shifts the balance a bit more in our favor, doesn't it? Together our numbers should eclipse those of the Dark, assuming they send at least four book worms our way.

Mm. Even one well-placed book worm might do the trick. Those in the Society often have some degree of temporal control. The newer members only have access to the lesser tomes, but more established members, like the Manager's brother, have Rings of Solomon—a means to turn back time. Suppose Umbra is not bluffing and was able to assemble the Mechanism and, with it, found the Enochian Bible. We could, with something like a Ring of Solomon, turn back time before he is able to fully upend it. Not sure what's worse: Umbra remaking the Universe in his image… or messing with the flow of time on such a scale. Either way, it bodes well that the Society will be in some attendance there.

That's all.

Big Guy.
