Summary of Receipt

V tells Bartlett that it’s impossible for him to fix the Mirror. And even if he could, he doesn’t want to - this seal is Fated to break, and if they somehow avert this one, a much, much more catastrophic one might just take its place. Besides, if he does fix the mirror, he won’t be able to recruit 2 out of his 3 picks for the Last Cafe. The CaD’s ‘in check’ - either they move out of danger and give Fate an advantage, or are destroyed entirely. V will help out where he can, but still. Also, apparently Bartlett broke it to gain dimension-warping powers.

So you shattered Mary’s Mirror, is that it? I wondered how you were able to pull off those nasty little tricks of yours. But… Seven years of bad luck is a long time in eternity. Or, near-eternity, I assume you are still very much mortal. You and I both know it was no accident, though. I hope the dimensional powers were worth it. You have placed yourself and possibly the entire universe into a very precarious position. Unfortunately, I cannot fix the Mirror. Not to say that I lack the power or knowledge required to fix it, but I lack the will to fix it. My hands are tied, and my lips are zealed.

You see, No. I has been on my case about filling out our ranks, and if I fix this Mirror, well, there goes two of my three picks. Plus, I already said the seal was broken. Just because it hasn’t shattered yet does not mean it isn’t fated to do so. If I save this one seal? Well, I shudder to think what seal would sooner take its place. You pick Dover, Eden, or Worse. Face it, you broke this Mirror, and the consequences must play out. This debt must come due. Pity, it plays into Fate’s favor this time around.

You have, what, eleven more days to figure out a solution? You are rightly in check, my comrades. There is no alternative. Save your king or forfeit. And to save your king, you might need to let a black pawn take a promotion. I know this isn’t what you want to hear. I know you want to save the day and right your wrongs. So… Perhaps there is another way. A few alternatives I could think of. I’ll let my rook take action on them though I am firmly out of the equation for this conundrum. In fact, all five of us are out of the equation here. Even, No. I has chosen to stay his hand. Though, I think this was his plan all along. Why else would he align our Cafe to Eden? He wants it open. One way or another, this was always his plan. His big move. Shame that it must come with such casualties. But, what would you prefer, Dover? Cups or swords? I’d make the decision now if I were you.
