Hover over the clues if you require!
Clue 1: Have you fiddle with the picture yet? GIMP should work just fine.
Clue 2: There's a difference between this and the original image it spawns from.
Clue 3: If you found it, what is John Doe worried about?
Answer and Explanation
Answer: Maeve
Explanation: Find the picture itself, and take the difference. In the letter, Owner said John Doe's worry is tied to Maeve.
Summary of Receipt
The Owner reveals that there was a hidden message in the 8/24 entry. Essentially, John Doe’s situation is this: his worldline is crashing into theirs, like an earthquake. These naturally occur - however, in this case, it seems to be planned. The big change in John Doe’s world is that the Indigo Organisations don’t exist. Instead, the ‘55 Society’ (similar to Tuskkin?), led by their universe’s Maeve (mammon), takes their place. The CaD can’t really directly go against alternate-Mammon, since the regular one might get involved. And that’s bad. The Owner makes plans to travel to the John Doe worldline, and stashes a few alternate-CADComs behind a poster. He also suggests using nom de plumes (or more specifically Nom De Plumes), and picks 9. (Duck’s notes: look just go read CD-TTE04 in the transcripts, there’s a lot of lore I can’t really write here cause it’s out of place)

THE OWNER
Well, hello once again, everyone. I had to be careful with that last report. Maeve might be clever, but she is too much like her sister Sara. They don’t dig too deep if you leave an obvious crumb for them to find. They say Lucy is the Prince of Pride, but surely Maeve would come in second place. Kiss up to her, and you can stab her in the back later. Again, perhaps I’m saying too much. Now, about that anomaly…
It would seem that an alternate worldline similar to ours is “crashing” into us. This phenomenon, while rare, does happen occasionally. Minor temporal anomalies occur all the time. Brand names change, movies and books appear and disappear. It’s nothing to worry about; it’s almost like plate tectonics. A “temporal earthquake” of sorts. Except, this doesn’t seem to be “natural.” This seems forced. Planned.
As he prefers to be called, John Doe is from the alternate worldline that is crashing into ours. In his worldline, the significant difference is the Indigo Organizations don’t exist. In their place is the “55 Society” led by none other than Maeve. Well, their Maeve, not ours. The thing is, we owe our Maeve a hefty debt. So going directly up against her alternate worldline self is perhaps not a great plan. In fact, her finding out that an alternate worldline version of herself is trying to supersede her worldline… well… that could get messy. Still, I want to help John Doe. I know him, in a sense. And before you start speculating, no, he is not just the alternate worldline version of myself. Still, he is family. Cafe family. So we will do what we can.
I’ve already helped him with his cipher problem, and it has led to more problems. More and more, it seems like we might need to venture into this other worldline, and if we do, it would be wise to use nom de plumes or pen names to do so. I’ve chosen 9 because I am uncreative. Start thinking of yours, and when the time is right, I will let you know who is going where and when we must go. If we time this right, our absence will not even be noticed by our Maeve. Sara might notice, but I’m banking on her not to care.
Additionally, we should not use our CaDComs to document this any further as that could alter things in ways not even I can predict. In the back behind the Next Generation poster, I’ve stashed a few “CaDComs” from their worldline. They won’t turn on until we are there, and once we are back, they should disconnect again.
Yours in nom de plume,
9
