[Date | Nov-4-24] [Barista | Matcha] [Subject | Mr. Dan] [File Reference | C-YIFM04] How terribly bleak… grim, even. Perhaps… a bit desperate, a bit helpless, too. Corylus and Prunus managed to work their magic wonderfully—marvelously, even—and spun a fresh portal to the Thorn in the Midside. I can’t say I fully understand how their sigils function, but I’m genuinely impressed by how swiftly they pulled one together. Unfortunately, that’s where the good news ends. We all headed to the creek behind the Fred Meyer where the Yale has been grazing, and mostly keeping a low profile. They opened the portal, and… the Yale bolted. Jaunted. Stormed. Zipped.
It seems our Yale friend has developed a sudden, irrational, incomprehensible fear of the Otherside itself. Well, maybe not the Otherside itself, but the act of crossing dimensions, perhaps. The Yale might have experienced a significant bout of dimensional displacement sickness when it first slipped into the Flipside and now fears that brief—albeit intense—misery all over again. Typically, cryptids don’t suffer from dimensional displacement sickness, though they usually enter the Flipside through more conventional means than an unexpected breach in boundary lines. The unorthodox means by which the Yale arrived might be the cause of its significant discomfort.
Even so, lingering here in the Flipside will only worsen the Yale’s mounting dimensional sickness. Without the right care, cryptids, demons, and myths simply can’t thrive here. We left the poor thing a dish of tartrazine-infused water, which should help for now. Hopefully, it soothes the creature’s discomfort enough to help it overcome its fear of traveling back to the Thorn. We’ll check back in a day or so and try again. Thankfully, Corylus and Prunus’ portal isn’t a one-and-done deal, though it does take considerable energy from both of them to form. I suppose, in that regard, displacement sickness does go both ways.
