“Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, I call this story…”

The Espresso Affairs.

I know, I know, “Are You Afraid of the Dark” isn’t much of a sitcom, but I saw the opportunity and had to take it. Plus, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take – Wayne Gretzky. Now, onto serious business. If you are reading this, then I assume you are Julia Wandsun. If not, this message will explode in 10 seconds. Just kidding, it probably just got decaffed like all good things eventually do. I can’t imagine these Espresso Affairs going on forever. Assuming we eventually figure out where this “End” is. So, I suppose for the uninitiated and for good record keeping: The Espresso Affairs is the clandestine order of the Cafe and Diner devoted to discovering the truth behind the Otherworld phenomena.

But you already know that, so let’s tamp down. Daedalus. A legendary Amaymonian demon, architect of the Necropolis Labyrinth, master of Drosselmeyer, originator of the Icarian Folly, maker of xoanon, and the designer behind the legendary Mechanism. Needless to say, he’s an important demon who is well documented and also tied heavily into Greek mythology. We had assumed that the demon Daedalus, known to the Cafe and Diner as Mr. Gehrels, was a real Greek guy from ancient Greece who was good at building things. However, now we have this “Otherworld” with an Olympian plane full of Greco-Roman mythological figures like Despoina, Agenor, and Dolos. So… would we find Daedalus in Olympus? Also, side note, we’re calling the plane Olympus, but we’re 99% sure the plane itself encompasses Chthonic stuff too.

Our first mission, my dear Julia, if you choose to accept it, is to travel into Olympus with me to find the Daedalus of the Otherworld, assuming there is a Daedalus in the Otherworld to find. Though… we don’t actually know a whole bunch about how “safe” Olympus is for us. So, revised mission, we get Seth to warp us to the Necropolis to speak with the demon Daedalus. See what he knows of the Olympian Plane. And, if Daedalus is no longer in the Otherside, well, that’s very interesting. A high-profile demon like Daedalus doesn’t just go missing. He’s one of Asmodeus’ floofy fruity nobles. Crap. Asmodeus. I totally forgot; the Necropolis is sorta under siege at the moment. Well… I’d rather deal with the hell we know than the Otherworld weirdness we don’t.
