Clue

Hover over the clues if you require!
Clue 1: Synonyms and related words are the key, here. What's another word for a 'Balaclava'?
Clue 2: And what (hyphenated) word can go before 'shotgun'?
Clue 3: Jiminy Cricket's most famous quote.

Answer and Explanation

Answer: Everything Went Numb
Explanation: This is a reference to the chorus of the song 'Everything Went Numb', as the lines in the puzzle are each related to a line of the song's chorus, in addition to the 'checks' in both the puzzle and the lyrics - 'Balaclava' and 'Ski Mask', 'Shotgun' and 'Sawn Off', 'Jiminy Cricket' and 'Guilty Conscience' (the famous quote from Pinocchio) and finally 'Fear of Death' being a direct quote.

“Transformational Ascension,” huh? I’d call it pure bullshit. I know exactly what Luci’s cooking up. He’s selling his cult members what my Tanty would call “Jinga-Jumbie-Makko,” you know? A slippery kind of magic that aims to bust through the laws of the Otherside entirely. It’s not real magic—or at least, it’s never been taken seriously. It’s like idle gossip. You’d have to be one arrogant fool to think you know better than the Universe itself. Then again, Pride himself? Doesn’t get much more arrogant than that.

For those not in the loop, here’s the short version of one of my Tanty’s magic lectures: you can do whatever you like—so long as you don’t mess with the Universe itself. Push it too far, and you’ll get cut off. For humans? No big deal. Most of ‘em don’t even notice if they’re cut off from magic. But for demons? That’s a death sentence. And for a Prince like Lucifer? Well, if he ended up magic-less, it’d cause quite the scene. That’s why he’s keeping his own hands clean with this scheme—and making damn sure his higher-up demon buddies don’t touch it either.

Now, the big question: Jinga-Jumbie-Makko… or “Ascension.” Is it possible? Yeah, surprisingly, it is. Wonda wuks—miracles. The Universe isn’t so much an absolute as it is a boundary. There’s magic that comes from outside the Universe, magic that predates it, and it can bend the rules. But bend ‘em too far, and the Big Four will shove you into the Colorless Between without a second thought. The tricky part? They won’t stop Luci—not if they’re the ones putting him up to this stunt.

So, let’s recap: Luci’s trying to give humans the power to defy Universal laws, yeah? And he’s using humans because they have a lot less to lose than his demon pals do. It’s possible, but he’ll need a miracle—a power from beyond the Universe itself. Normally, that’s something the Big Four would keep a close eye on… but who else does Luci work for? Best-case scenario? Luci’s doing this on his own, and we can just tip off his mom… that’d put an end to it real quick. But how will we know if she knows? …Ya know?
