RECEIPT NOTES:
So, here we are, headed out to Salt Lake City. No reason, really, other than to see if the lights of Universal Distress are truly following us—or simply appearing wherever we happen to go. Now that I write it out, I think the answer’s rather obvious, don’t you? But there’s little harm in confirming my worst suspicions. If I’m right, though, the question shifts to something more elusive: why are the lights following us? I have some theories, I’ll admit, but they’re half-hearted guesses at best.
If there’s an answer, it’s probably something one of us already knows. Given the errors of my youth, I’m hardly a trustworthy source on matters cosmic, eh? Besides, there are countless secrets involving the greater order of things that I couldn’t share even if I wanted to. I’m bound by an oath of Zilence, scars still on my lips to prove it. As you may know, it’s rare to defect from Zulu, but even rarer still for any who do to go spilling the greatest cult’s deepest secrets. That would be a one-way ticket to a fate far worse than death, yes?
Still, I’ll tell you this much: I have no idea why these lights are following us, and I very much doubt they’re after me. The only thing I can think of that might catch their attention is my “Teal Room”—a room I helped create in my childhood home that, shall we say, challenges the Universe. But it’s harmless, really—more aligned with structures like the Black Tide or Limbo than anything of particular threat to the Universe.
So… is it la dame, the last child of the Devil and Eve, simulacrum of Pride and the Morningstar? Or could it be Baltimore? A “normal” human with some rather large ideas.
Hm.
