THAT WAS VERY SCARY! BUT ALSO, VERY EXCITING! WOW! It seems like, yes it seems like, Umbra was just using the Nuckalevee. And Umbra said this, he really said this, this is what he said, he said, “that New Guy sure tricked me good. He’s very smart, and also somewhat handsome!” WOW!

S.O.T.

Manager: How much longer ‘til Levi shows up?

New Guy: It should be very soon! Yes, I believe it simply must be!

H.R.: So… we’re waiting for the tide to go out over the Locker?

New Guy: In a way, yes. The “tide” in Mayda doesn’t quite work like the tide in the Flipside. It is more influenced by where the Necropolis is in relation to Mayda, which I do believe is interesting, if only because the Necropolis is so heavily associated with the Flipside moon! But, because the Necropolis is below the Mayda, the tide is actually on the bottom of—

Stronsay: It’s about time, Umbra.

Umbra: Apologies for the delays. It would seem I was given an improper translation. Ah—the Frog. I have you to thank, don’t I?

New Guy: YOU!

Umbra: I must say, it is rather pathetic that the most hindrance your Cafe and Diner has offered came in the form of a talking Frog. Nuckelavee, lend me your strength. Unleash the flood.

[Stronsay raised his hand, causing the Atlantic Ocean to swell ten-fold as the water turned an inky black. Umbra then began gazing into Lucifer’s Scrying Mirror.]

Umbra: ZIRDO OLPIRT, KIA THYRSMAZ.

[The ocean shattered like glass, revealing a hidden underwater grave where the corpse of a hulking beast lay chained to the bottom of the world itself.]

Umbra: ZIRDO OLPIRT PHO. ZIROD PHO.

[The corpse twisted and contorted as it lurched to life, straining against the shackles of its imprisonment.]

Payroll: What the hell is that thing?!

Manager: No… can’t be…

New Guy: What… what is it?

Manager: That can’t be… Grendel.

Umbra: Poor accursed child of Cain. Trapped in a prison between realms. What a monstrous form.

[Umbra descended into the hidden veil and removed a vial of a strange coagulated black liquid from his pocket. He then placed the coagulated black substance into Grendel’s mouth.]

Umbra: Nuckelavee, if you would do the honors?

Stronsay: Decay and rot.

[Stronsay speared Grendel with an ink-black spike, piercing its heart and causing its ancient blood to spill out. As the blood poured from Grendel, it began to evaporate into pure shadows. His veins grew cloudy, dark, and umbral, and his form became like an intangible shadow as he slipped out from the chains that held him.]

Umbra: Excellent. A truly marvelous beast. Come along, my Ghost Beast. We have much yet to do.

[Umbra and Grendel left the CaDCom Transcription Range.]

Stronsay: Now… to finish the job.

[Stronsay called back his ink-black spike as the ocean returned to its normal state. As he aimed it toward the Cafe and Diner, a flash of brilliant lighting struck across the water as a sea serpent twenty times the size of Stronsay swallowed him whole, dragging him deep down into the Locker of Mayda.]

Manager: …L…awds below. ‘Least he’s punctual.

H.R.: Was that… Leviathan.

Manager: Yeah. In ‘is true form.

Payroll: I’ve… never seen his true form.

Manager: Terrifying, innit? But… none worse than a shadowy Grendel.

Payroll: Right… crap. Okay, let’s regroup and… figure out what to do next.
