While the Manager’s brother did tell us a lot about the Mechanism, not even he knows exactly where the other pieces are. Luckily, I think I could psychically search for them using our current components. While this would be the fastest method of finding the missing parts, it has some severe risks we must consider. Primarily Umbra. While he has largely taken a back seat in allowing his underlings to engage us directly, the astral plane is HIS domain. Umbra might be a significant threat in the corporeal world, but he’s like a god in the astral plane. Going there would make me an easy target for Umbra, let alone doing so to try and find the same thing he is looking for.
It might be worth testing the waters a bit and dipping my toes back into astral projection and psychonautic travel. I mean, it’s been years since I’ve adequately constructed an astral body, but I was trained in psychonautic travel specifically to talk to the King. Right. The King could also be a significant problem with this plan. Or he could shield me from Umbra… maybe. However, here is not the place to talk about that, so I’ll drop it for now. Plus, there’s a whole host of other non-local entities and fear eaters lurking in the astral plane to worry about. Unless someone has a better idea, this might be our only way of finding the Mechanism pieces before the Dark does.
And it’s not a guaranteed risk. Umbra isn’t always in the Astral Plane, and from what I know about him, he really only goes there when he is actively trying to influence someone through sleep paralysis. Of course, I don’t know if and when Umbra sleeps. It might be that Umbra spends his nights traversing the astral plane looking for new members to add to his sinister ranks. I think it’s worth trying at the very least. And maybe our Barista can help out with it too. I know she’s on a bit of a spiritual break, but all I’d need is someone to watch my body while I travel in case things go wrong.
Til then,
Peace, Love, and Joy!
