Figured I’d open up a new receipt to go over the Cafe’s ‘tition. All in all, there are roughly four other coffee joints we need to keep an eye on: The Decodex Society, New Dawn Coven, Eikositrian Coterie, and, of course, the Orchard Concord. Yeah, yeah, there’s one big one missing. I know. Trust me, I know. For now, let’s just live in blissful ‘rance of our Big Brother. ‘sides, let’s face it… there are currently only three of us. No way we can take them on. No way we can even think about taking them on. Did they light the match? Maybe, maybe not. Could they have? Easily.

So… as for our more reasonable ‘tition, let’s start with our most direct competitor, the Society. They are just the worst, aren’t they? ‘aucracy and the supernatural just don’t mix in my opinion. Way too easy for stuff to get lost in the paperwork shuffle. Also—they’re current director-general, Sir. Alistair Redwood is… generously… a war criminal. And Mint doesn’t work for war criminals. Likewise, the Coven isn’t much better. Sure, they’re all peace, love, and joy… until you cross them. They believe in some sorta absolutist-karmic balance. ‘Cept, it’s not so much an eye for an eye as it is an eye for eye, nose, and tongue. True, they make a powerful ally and all that jazz… just… ya know. Dangerous to cross. Easy to cross, too.

Then that brings us to the Eikos’ and Concord. Not even remotely our allies. The Eikos’ split off from the Society around the 16th century or so. They also were not fans of the ‘aucracy—so they went with anarchy instead. They are worshippers of Eris and are all about bringing chaos and sowing discord. They would be happy to work with us—if they’ve ‘termined that it’s the best way to cause the most havoc. Best avoided. Then there’s the Orchard Concord, which is the governing body of the Otherside led by the Princes of Hell. Pretty straightforward why they might be opposed to our work. Thankfully, unlike the Eikos’ they have a very rigid set of rules and treatises and agreements they have to adhere to. Long as we play by their rules we’ll be just fine.
