Summary of Receipt

Employee 44 identifies who Miss. Janos is: the Ordog. A shapeshifter, he’s likely the Umbra of the new Dark Triad, acting as the spy and planner. Also, Satan’s new Dark Triad is likely weaker than the previous one, but also more loyal. 44 also elaborates on demon lore: first, there are cryptids, or Lesser Demons. They’re the reincarnations of Flipside animals, plants and objects. Next, there are Common-Demons, reincarnated people of the Flipside. Lastly, there are High Demons, or blooded Demons, who are mainly the children of the Devil and Lilith.

My, my, my, what an interesting man that Jakab Janos is. Well, "man," might not be entirely correct. No, Miss. Janos is, of course, a demon in disguise. Not terribly surprising, is it? However, what took me by surprise is that he is no ordinary demon. Miss. Janos is a blooded demon. For those patrons who are unaware, demons come in three basic flavors. Lesser-Demons, which we tend to call "Cryptids," is the reincarnation of Flipside creatures, flora and fauna alike. Then you have Common-Demons, reincarnated humans of the Flipside. And finally, High-Demons, more commonly referred to as "blooded" demons because of their shared lineage to the Devil Himself. Most blooded demons are the offspring of Lilith and the Devil, though some have a different mother. As far as I can tell, Janos is one of Lilith's children.

As with most blooded demons, Janos truly is a relatively well-known Demon in the Flipside. He is none other than the Ördög, a shapeshifter from the Hauntaurskald popular in Hungarian lore. His power to shapeshift explains his ability to evade our glamor-detection as he does not require one. While it might seem like a minor power, do not underestimate the versatility this affords Padre. He could very easily have Janos take the form of any of us, and we would be none the wiser. Not to spread an unwarranted paranoia, of course, darlings. I am not entirely sure how his powers work or their limitations. Worst case, he can be anyone at any time, and he can imitate that person's powers and knowledge. Best case, he requires some sort of fetish to maintain a certain form, and he remains limited to his own powers and knowledge.

As my lovely No. 26 pointed out last weekend, it is very likely Miss. Janos is filling a similar role to Miss. Umbra, something of a spy or tactician. However, I think Padre probably prefers the more submissive Janos to Umbra's loose canon. Miss. Fitch, likewise, is more loyal to Padre than Mrs. Pleasant. And of course, Miss. Cece has more than demonstrated her loyalty to the Dark Prince. If I were to analyze the situation, I would say overall, Satan's new "Dark Triad" is weaker than his original but far more loyal. However, there remain many unknown variables.
