And that takes care of that. I hope. We returned to the school with four different solutions to Mrs. Hanako: If she was a Yurei, it would be as easy as smudging the area and exercising the spirit. If she was a demon of some sort, it’s as easy as it usually is... just crack the boundary lines open enough to slip her back in. And if she turned out to be a Yokai, then that’s up to No. 7’s powers. Having just typed that out, I realize that I VASTLY over-simplified our work. The whole getting Demons back to the Otherside thing is a lot more complicated than just cracking the boundary lines, especially without Seth around. And banishing Ghosts back to the Achegloom is also finicky at best. Luckily though, when we encountered her this morning, she acted like a Yokai, which is as easy as No. 7 sending her back to Nightmarch using her special Otherworldly powers.

Not that sending a Yokai back to Nightmarch is all that interesting… The real interesting thing is… why was she shifting between, uh, “forms,” I guess. I am glad we took the time to stake out the area because we saw those strange lights in the sky once again. Mr. Bartlett’s lights. At this point, I don’t even think the lights are really associated with the Dover Demon, but the name has stuck. So somehow these strange lights seem to change the form of customers. Why? How? No clue. I’ve been chatting with No. 2 about our findings, and he seems convinced it is some sort of “extraterrestrial phenomenon.” And… maybe he’s right? I don’t know. I’ve only been serving coffee for about 5-6 years now, so I’m more open to the idea of Aliens than everyone else seems to be.

Anyway, Mrs. Hanako’s tab has been paid… assuming she stays a Yokai and stays in Nightmarch. We’ve told the principal to give us a call if the “radon” starts acting up or spooking night custodians. We’re going to camp out for a few days to make sure everything is “normal,” and we’re going to be keeping our eyes on the sky in case more lights show up.
