Of course, it had to be the Teal Room. If I were planning to hide a prophetic octogenarian somewhere, the Teal Room would probably be my first choice, too. Maybe they’ve even stashed Joy there as well? It’d be a great place to hide her, as Jenny already sort of explained. What’s in the Teal Room can’t be detected by man, demon, or angel. The jury is still out on whether the Bird or the Devil could see into it, but I don’t think so. I mean, I’d imagine that the Teal Room is pretty damn good, considering it’s what caused our entire family name to become taboo.

I don’t know the specifics as my mom and grandma don’t like talking about it. But I know my great uncle Felix, my grandma Marcelle, and my other great uncle Lucien… mm… they did something. Some sort of ritual, a, uh, well, I think it was a sacrifice of some sort. Whatever it was, it was considered extremely taboo by the greater supernatural community in the New Orleans area. Not only did it taint the Blackwood name and reputation for, well, three generations now—but it also resulted in Lucien’s death. However, the forbidden fruit their ritual bore was the Teal Room.

There are pocket dimensions and places that lie outside of the Universe—and then there is the Teal Room. It’s basically a dead pixel in the Universe. It doesn’t… exist. Not on “paper,” anyway. It’s why I originally assumed that’s where the Sacred Hall of Bingo was. Hell, it still might be. As it would theoretically shield their activities from any cosmically prying eyes. Plus, due to the non-existent nature of the Teal Room, you can get away with a lot more “taboo” magics in there without upsetting the Universal Order.

It comes at a price, of course. Just being in the Teal Room risks your entire essence being undone. Well, only if the door shuts when it shouldn’t. Though, I should be able to open the door—and keep it open—as a Blackwood. But Jenny’s right. We would need a way to get right up to it and a way to leave quickly after. It won’t take Felix long to know we’re there, and we probably don’t want to tip-toe around Blackwood Manor any longer than we need to. I don’t think Felix would hurt us… but… I don’t know that for sure.
