<i>Greek Fire.</i>

A substance as enigmatic as the whirling winds of the nar as-samum or even the first flame of Kilimanjaro. Born from alchemical mastery, this mythical concoction could blaze with an indomitable fervor. It's luring luminous light, warming the wine-dark seas of the Eastern Roman Empire. Its flames were said to dance with a chartreuse sheen that emitted an eerie luminescence over the waves which it burned upon. The hiss of its release, the scent of scorched brine, and the relentless hunger with which it devoured all in its path… it was pure power. One of the seven sacred flames of the King Draped in Yellow Flames.

Of course, its true composition was lost to history. Jealously and fervently guarded by the sages of the Byzantine—Sparks of the xanthic. But here we are, among the dead, among the very byzantine sages who had been entrusted with the secrets of such a divine fire. At least, that is my hope. For many who have been touched by the warming light of the lost King, they do not reach the Otherside in death. They have a much higher purpose. Their souls are purified in the brightest of fires…

But not every soul is purified. Some are foolish enough to leave the embrace of the Golden Father before they are reborn. I could only imagine those heretics writhing in the pits of Pandemonium. However, there are also those few who are entrusted with keeping the flames burning via a single spark. It is a sacred and noble task, but it does leave one's soul subject to the whims of the common afterlife. If I can find such a sage, I am certain I could procure a bottle or two of Greek Fire which would surely burn hot enough to melt the Spire of Night back together, at least long enough for us to leave this damned place.
