Protodemons are nasty little buddies, aren’t they? They aren’t quite demons, nor are they cryptids. They’re closer to fragments of ideas. Strange, malformed, half-finished thoughts that skirt the edges of Universal laws. Protodemons can be as mild as an ominous feeling… or as devastating as a language-shattering tower. They come in all sorts of shapes and sizes with, often hard-to-predict or even understand powers. While we’ll need to be on our toes—Salenna is right, Ciel and I have quite a few of our own little buddies who’d love some playtime with their odder cousins.

The goal of Paradise has always been to reacclimate cryptids so we can send them home knowing they’ll be healthy and happy in the Otherside… there are some cryptids that are either a bit too rough around the edges or even invasive for their respective plane. Most of these cryptids, if not all of them, come to us from the ever-cheerful Hauntaurskald. While you could argue they’re meant to be killing machines in the endless war of Pandemonium… I don’t think so. Humans can be awful and thus end up in the Hauntaurskald. But I don’t believe that animals can truly be bad. Wild, sure. Untamed, absolutely. Abused, unfortunately, all too frequently.

However, all of our little killers have been exceptionally well-trained by Ciel and I. They wouldn’t hurt a fly. But, without Ciel and I to watch over them, it’s still too risky to send them back into the Otherside. If we sent them to any other plane, they might “snap,” and if we sent them back to the Hauntaurskald, they’d be killed almost instantly. However, the Black Thorn offers an interesting opportunity. A place where they can be as rough as they like but without the fear of being hunted for war rations. I’d like to see how some of our rougher buddies do in there. It might be a great new home for them!</span>
