Despite the lackluster results of our road trip, I’m quite pleased with the research I was able to conduct. Specifically, I’ve learned a lot about the look, smell, and taste of a burning soul. Something I’ve noticed is that there is not a lot of consistency in the properties of a soul; some smell sweet while others foul, some are bright, and others are dull, and some are hot while others seem to leave a certain chill in the air. Typically, it is very, very difficult to examine souls as they are often, well, “in use.”

This is why I believe if these soul-eating flies are indeed some sort of machination of an unknown entity or organization, it is most likely in an effort to collect and store soul energy to use, research, or experiment upon. While we were unable to draw a specific conclusion, I do find it highly strange that these flies are holding on to bits and pieces of souls. Now, it would beg the question of why this hypothetical “Mr. Diptera” would just leave the many soul-laden fly corpses to rot. So, I would wager a guess that other flies hold either more soul energy or certain specific souls that the entity or organization is after.

As it was, while it’s very odd that these fly corpses have any latent souls in them at all, the amount is equivalent to a grain of sand for the soul of any human. So, perhaps the flies have been given some property to drain and store souls, and this unknown “Mr. Diptera” is then transferring the majority of the acquired souls and leaving behind only crumbs. It’s certainly concerning, and, in any case, it would be wise for us to either figure out this fly conundrum or pass the problem off to another organization. Messing with souls is a very, very dangerous business.</span>
