The Chickcharney has been here. We’ve found several pines tied together with its gossamer-like webbing. According to mon amour, the Chickcharney is more akin to an arachnid than an owl, despite its outward appearance. I’ve never seen one myself, even with all my “extra” experience in the Coffee Trade. They’re a rare breed… which likely explains the interest from the Astoria 23rd Agency. That is, if they’re even a breed at all. It’s still unclear whether there are multiple Chickcharneys or if it’s just one prolific demon. I suppose we’ll find out soon enough.

We’ve spotted a handful of what might be called Chickcharney nests—or webs might be the more accurate term—but we haven’t actually seen the creature. Mon amour can still sense a Morningstarian presence nearby, so it seems the Agency hasn’t captured it yet. Or, if they’re closing in, we’re still close on their trail. I’ve been trying to piece together the Chickcharney’s likely path based on the nests we’ve found so far. If I had to guess… I’d say it’s moving north, toward Yosemite.

Once we locate the Chickcharney, things should be fairly straightforward. All mon amour has to do is touch the spider-like bird to return it safely to her plane. Of course, it would be ideal if we could study the creature a bit before sending it back. Maybe we can gauge whether it has intelligence beyond that of a mere cryptid—perhaps it’s even a demon or an Elder? Naturally, we’ll be careful to show the Chickcharney the utmost respect, and if we’re fortunate, we might even curry a bit of its good luck for ourselves. Bird knows we’ll need it.
