My apologies for the Indigo-tinged vignette. I am certain you are all eager to know how the Cafe fared without its beloved Owner. Well, the truth of it is, the Cafe couldn’t survive. Immediately, it began to fracture and split. Tensions grew especially volatile at his funeral, which was attended by friends and allies alike. Many assumed he was not actually dead, but it is hard to argue with an open casket. Or, I suppose, it’s rather easy, as a corpse tends to not argue back.

Many of the original Cafe employees went into retirement. Some were snatched up by the Astoria 23rd Agency. The rest returned to their lives prior to the Cafe, trying to follow a life they hadn’t lived in for quite some time. The only employee who couldn’t move on was the Original Owner’s protégé, #35. His death completely consumed her every waking thought. Her obsession slowly pushed away all of her loved ones as she chased the ghost of a dead number. However, there was one who shared her obsession and undying devotion to the enigmatic Owner—his amour, his guiding light, his beloved Lucifer.

Together, Lucifer and #35 started to unravel the secret, wicked, fate of the phantom the prior Owner left behind. A debt that had come due, a deal made in a moment of desperation—or was its pre-determination? A cold and chilling truth about a second bargain made in the dead of night. Ultimately, their revelations led to a resolution—they had to save the Original Owner. Death really is only a temporary inconvenience, after all. A transition from one state to another and then back again. But to save the Original Owner, #35 would have to don the number and open the doors to the Cafe once more.</span>
