Have you ever considered how bloody hard it is for me to keep the Wicked’s flames inside me? Wasn’t raised like you two were. It’s like the Wicked gave me a can of the choicest gasoline, and a strike anywhere matchstick, and you lot want me to just sit on my hands all the damn day. If I could just actually use the powers I’ve been given—If you’d let me be a proper warlock for once—then I could be so, so much more. I could finally show up, my brothers. I could finally—

But I don’t. Do I? No. I’m a whipped little house cat. I stay in line as much as I’m able. I self-medicate. I keep the flames buried deep, deep inside. I keep everything deep inside. You think I like pretending to be bumbling, drunk, washed-up “Jericho” every damn day? Weighing my wrists down with iron? I’ve got so many more problems than just the wee Wicked to worry about. At least he plays by some sense of rules. And, by those rules, we’re safe. We’ve got the right protections. It’s not a curse; it’s a gift. Not every gift is a good one, of course. But we could’ve gotten off so much worse. Not saying we should all start dropping to our knees for the King… but—trust me for once.</span>
