<i>Hollllllly crap.</i> Holy crap.

I… don’t even know what to really say? I mean, okay, first off: major half success. I know the Owner hates using the word “failure,” but… maybe this could be the exception? Because that was unequivocally a big fat failure. Damn it! I really thought I had planned for every possibility, every contingency, every… well, how the hell do you plan for that? For record-keeping, I’ll start at the beginning. Our only good fortune in that whole fight was that the Mothman and Hatman sat it out. Mothman’s still recovering, plus I’d imagine he’s still annoyed at Redman for, you know, ripping off his wing. As for the Hatman, I guess he was content to let the Redman fight his own battles. Well, that, and I imagine he already knew who was going to win.

Everything went perfectly. <b><i>Until it didn’t.</b></i> We lured the Redman to San Clemente Island using the artifact Secret procured from Mr. White. Apparently, it’s a total rusted-out piece of junk… some gear from some mechanism or whatever, not one of Mr. White’s cursed possessions, so there is no need to return it. #62’s OFFICE machine was able to sort of suck in any bloodshot Redman attempted to take, and then… well, then the Old Man and Sofia were going to cut his ties to the Hauntaurskald but… well, Redman wasn’t entirely alone. Augustine was with them, and if it wasn’t clear before, it is now, Augustine played and lost the Redman’s game. He’s just another pawn. Redman then commanded Augustine to raise Xavier, Sofia’s little brother, as some sort of… Blood Revenant.

Seeing her brother in that shape shattered Sofia’s concentration—only for a second. #17 and I was able to keep the Blood Revenant at bay long enough for Sofia and the Old Man to finish their ritual… until… the Redman cashed in on his victory against Sofia from earlier. He… he killed her. The ritual, now going south and we were running out of options. However, I planned for that. Well, not the dead brother part, but I figured the Redman might either take control of, or kill, Sofia. That’s why we had #1313 set up remotely to help the Old Man with his ritual. It wouldn’t be as fast or as potent, but it should’ve worked. <b><i>Should’ve.</b></i>

Just as Redman was starting to feel his connection to the Hauntaurskald slip he—he somehow brought #1313 to him in a puff of red smoke. And, with #1313 in his grasp, he revealed his trump card: #1313’s blood-red eye. DAMN IT! I accounted for so, so many contingencies… but I didn’t think any of us would be stupid enough to play his game. Not after Xavier. Not after Sofia. Well… what can you do at that point? The Owner called a truce then and there, and after exchanging some tense parting words with the Redman, they took off with the piece of junk. Well… Crap. How are we supposed to kill Redman now if #1313’s life is literally in his hands?
