A blank void stared back at me, smooth and featureless, except for the shifting ring of iridescent, multi-colored eyes orbiting its edges. They weren’t human eyes. They were fractured memories, shimmering with the weight of countless forgotten lives. Each blink collapsed a story, folding it into Snow’s emptiness. And then he spoke.

<i><b>“The past cannot be rewritten without cost.”</i></b>

His voice wasn’t loud, but it resonated, carried by the static itself straight into my bones. He didn’t sound angry—if anything, there was a deep, strange sorrow in his tone. It wasn’t a threat. <i>It was a warning.</i>

I tried to respond, to ask what he meant, but the words stuck in my throat. Snow didn’t wait. His void-like face fractured, splitting into shards that spiraled like a slow, deliberate storm. The eyes blinked in unison, and in that moment, I understood: the weight of tampering with time. The countless threads snapped and rewoven for even the smallest change. Each alteration ripples outward, unpredictable, irreparable.

Then I saw it. Hazy, obscured like a poorly tracked VHS tape—a massive figure, looming in the Between. Its shape was indistinct, but its presence was undeniable, like a shadow that bends the world around it.

When the vision faded, I found myself still clutching the shard, my hand trembling as though it had held something far heavier. I don’t know what Snow is trying to accomplish, but one thing is clear: this isn’t <i>just</i> about the Novas. Whatever they’re doing—whatever Snow wants me to understand—it’s more than rewriting the past. The shard hasn’t stopped humming since. I think it’s waiting for something. Maybe Snow is, too. And—I think my link to it has solidified. I think… I think I can use it now. Just like Mr. Cold did.</span>

It’s beautiful—truly—but I can’t shake the fear that the Golden Seams won’t hold forever. That’s becoming painfully clear. The ivy is doing its best—it really is—but all it can manage is to paper over the cracks, stitching the boundaries together with gilded tendrils that shimmer more than they strengthen. Beauty alone won’t stop the borders from fraying again. Kintsugi works, yes, but only if you stop dropping the darn bowl. The problem isn’t the repairs. It’s the endless, relentless damage. And damage has a source. It always does.

Vanilla saw something—a customer from Mexico. Mexico lies between Canada and the States, after all. (Don’t think too hard about that.) Something—or someone—there is pressing against their cell, sending ripples of disruption through the boundary lines. If we don’t address that pressure directly, it won’t matter how many tears we mend or how many seams we weave. The damage will keep coming, the ivy will lose its grip, and worse—it could become leverage for that particular customer to tear everything down.

The real question is how do we confront a customer imprisoned all the way in Mexico? Sure it’s “between” the States and Canada, but not… like… literally. If we headed up to Canada, we wouldn’t stop in Mexico first. This isn’t as simple as sneaking in or strong-arming our way past a few guards, either. We’d need an audience with one of the five Wardens. Maybe Lily herself, or one of the lesser keepers—Hope, Ardie, Nama, or Essie. Each of them governs a part of Mexico, and each carries a… reputation. Convincing them to let us in—or worse, to grant us access to a customer capable of this much disruption—is like asking the ocean to stop its tides.

If we could find a point of leverage—something they need, or something they fear—we might stand a chance. But that still leaves the matter of surviving an audience with authority figures whose patience for mere coffee peddlers (or anyone, really) is notoriously thin.</span>

Call it a hunch, but I’m pretty sure he used the shard as a key to literally “change the channel.” One minute he was here, stuck on loop like a broken record; the next, he was somewhere else entirely. An alternate Country, maybe—an alternate <b><i>Continent</b></i>, even. Somewhere we’re not supposed to see. At least, not from North America.

That got me thinking… if Mr. Cold could do it, so can we, right? The shard we’ve got isn’t just a static snow globe—it’s a way out. Or a way in, depending on how you look at it. The thing is, it doesn’t open random doors. I think it’s calibrated—attuned to something specific. And if Snow and the other Novas are involved, you can bet that “something specific” isn’t good news for us. My gut tells me they’re not just hopping Continents for fun. They’re searching for something—<b><i>someone</b></i>. That’s what they’re doing in Hibiscus’ Archives, isn’t it?

Using our shard might not be the worst idea. If the Novas are trying to get their claws on whatever’s locked behind these doors, it stands to reason we should take a look too. I’m not saying we dive in headfirst. Nutball, if you’re reading this, that’s not a secret wink-wink from me either, doofus. We should be real careful with these things. But… if there’s a way to figure out what we’re up against without giving the Novas a leg up, we <i>should</i> take it. Mr. Cold is certainly using his. Mrs. Jejune probably is too. And obviously, Ciel Flurrdo is meddling with them. We can’t afford to fall behind.</span>

Something is causing the boundary lines to shift. Whether it’s the thing lurking in the Between or something else entirely, it isn’t just tearing them apart—it’s reweaving them in ways no one expected. Yesterday, Cherry and I managed to stitch up another tear—a clean, efficient repair, if I do say so myself. But this morning, that same tear reappeared, freshly opened five feet to the left of where we’d closed it, with the withering remains of Golden Seam Ivy scattered across the ground. We didn’t consider that whatever’s causing this might also be capable of moving the boundaries themselves. That’s… not good.

When Cherry asked me what I thought about the Ivy’s role in all this, I couldn’t give her an answer that didn’t sound paranoid. But what’s worse? Some unknown, massive entity shifting the boundaries around? Or the possibility that our own solution is actively rewiring the topography of the Between? It’s not impossible that the Ivy, with its blood-magic-infused intelligence, has found a way to feed its bottomless greed indefinitely by moving the boundary lines around. True, this process seems to kill off parts of the Ivy, but maybe that’s a small price to pay in its mind—if it even thinks that way.

Here’s the problem: the ivy doesn’t seem to follow any logic I can recognize. Some seams dissolve into chaos. Others overlap in ways that defy interspatial vibrational geometry. And a few? A few seem stable—almost deliberate, as if someone is threading a needle between our two realities. That’s what worries me most: the idea that these shifts might not just be ivy-driven. Maybe they’re only ivy-enabled.

Of course, we built a kill switch into the Golden Seam. At any time, Cherry can sever her blood-link to the Ivy, and it should die off. But here’s the catch: despite the boundaries being stitched, moved, and rewired, aberrant tears across the country <i>are</i> down by over 70%. So what’s the bigger threat? An overwhelming number of stray tears in the boundary lines? Or a methodical rewiring, using our enhanced Golden Seam ivy as the thread?</span>

Ahahaha… getting a job at a Fast Food joint was, perchance, a bad idea. Sneaking into a manager’s meeting? That was a shit idea. Perchance. I believe it was Kant who said, “Experience without theory is blind, but theory without experience is mere intellectual play.” I exhibit this experience by getting myself into increasingly silly scenarios. Keep it up, baby! Anyway, everyone who is anyone was there. All of Mina’s big boys and even the glitter-boy (is that a slur? It sounds like a slur…), Sir. Flurrdo himself.

I kept to the shadows, naturally, pretending to be one of the more important paper-pushing people in the operation. I was fine—until one of the night guards brushed past me, and I swear they hesitated, their eyes narrowing like they caught a whiff of something that didn’t belong. My heart was halfway up my throat when the glitter-boy himself entered, drawing all eyes to the altar. Saved by the creepy, glowing figurehead. Lucky, lucky me.

And then, Flurddo’s plan dropped. A key follower—a “Chosen”—was to ascend. This week. On Thursday. Thanksgiving, actually. Not a particularly, you know, ceremonial holiday, but hey—maybe it’s just a coincidence. Now, I’ve seen their frozen treat ritual before. The little swirl of the soft serve. It’s ‘gusting—<i>dead ass</i>. But, worse, Flurrdo seems to think that he’s worked out all the kinks in his ice cream machine, and this “Chosen” one will be the first to serve a perfect swirl of chocolate and vanilla.

…And, okay, out of the Diner for a sec, <i>I don’t think I can watch another human get twisted into one of those shimmering, static-filled abominations.</i> I know I shouldn’t intervene—it’d blow my cover, our cover, maybe even get me killed… but… they can’t kill me in my true form, can they? When Hazelnut leaves his place of safety to stomp a glitter-boy, he knows that he may Die.</span>

We deployed the Golden Seam today. Had to. Oregon’s rift was yawning wider by the hour, pulling our shared reality taut like an overextended rubber band. It’s a tear that’s been growing for a few weeks now, and Cherry called it “the big one.” For once, I didn’t argue. Activation was smooth. Too smooth, maybe. The seam flared gold, its winding ivy vines unraveling from their seeds and latching onto the edges of the tear. The rift resisted at first, writhing against the binding magic, but Cherry’s blood magic worked, and soon the ivy was moving of its own accord—greedily sealing up the boundary lines, forcing the tear’s jagged edges together.

That’s when things got… <i>weird</i>.

The feedback hit like a shockwave, rippling outward and dragging everything nearby into a liminal blur. For a moment—maybe seconds, maybe minutes—the Flipside and the Between weren’t separate anymore. It wasn’t exactly a merger; it was more like a forced overlap, like trying to look through two different lenses at once. The world flickered, colors inverted, and shadows deepened in ways they shouldn’t. We were there, in the Between… but not physically there. At least, I don’t think we were.

And then I saw <i>it</i>.

Something massive moved in the Between. I couldn’t make out details—thank the Devil for that—but I caught glimpses. A ripple of jagged spines, eyes that didn’t belong where they were, and massive hands (or claws?) pounding against the boundary lines. Whatever that thing is? I think it’s what’s been causing this instability. And then, just as suddenly, the tear stabilized. The flickering stopped. The rift held. Whatever that thing was, it receded back into the Between—still pounding at the borders of our reality.

The good news? The Golden Seam worked. The rift in Oregon is sealed, and the boundary lines have returned to their proper places. No more energy bleeding, no more runaway tears. For now, anyway. And, hopefully, the Golden Seam ivy will continue to hunt down more tears to feed its bottomless greed for the energy they release. In a few days… months… maybe years, hopefully, all we’ll be left with is official portals between the Otherside, Flipside, and everything else Between.</span>

Cherry called it a “leap of faith,” but let’s not kid ourselves—it was a wild shot in the dark with a prayer attached. Abbey’s ivy seeds were the inspiration, sure, but the execution? That was all us. Seeds alone can’t really patch boundary tears, not when we only had a handful to work with. So, we did what we do best: improvise.

What if we could engineer a version—or a “strain” of Abbey’s ivy that could not only fill the tears but “stitch” them back up over time? It’d be better than just throwing the seeds in rot-infested soil and hoping for the best. Cherry suggested altering the seeds using her special cocktail formulations. And so… we started working on the Cafe’s latest late-night drink, the “Golden Seam.”

I won’t bore you all with the specifics, but it’s a drink with gold flakes (from when we dealt with Mina), gin (from Abbey’s berries, specifically), and a shot of Fireball (from Cherry, naturally). The gold flakes are more than just a flourish. Mina’s domain is Greed, and hopefully, we’ve upgraded Abbey’s ivy to be just that—greedy. It’ll feed off of a specific frequency of frayed boundary lines and, in the process, close them and keep growing.

Now? We just need to try it out. Honestly, the thought of gin with Fireball makes my stomach turn, but—Cherry seems game. I guess she and Hazelnut have a more… “open” palate. Worst case? Things go horribly wrong; we end up poisoning our customers, we piss off the Department or the Coven or both, and then we have a different set of problems to contend with. But honestly? I think even the worst case would work out for us if it finally spurred the Department to do something—<i><b>anything</i></b>—about this problem.</span>

Beelzebub’s court isn’t what I was expecting. Well… to be fair, I was expecting a big empty tree with feasts on every floor. But the Court of Rot is no Hollow I’m used to. It’s a lot quieter… eerily quiet. Just Beelzebub and a few twisting, twirling plants. In any case, she’s going to look into her brother’s cult, and we’re going to try planting her seeds along the boundary lines.

Abbey: Can’t get anyone to do anything these days. To be clear, the Cafe and Diner was not my first choice.

Abbey: Long list. Though, near the top? My dad. My brother. Hell, even the Olympians—if I can get them to stop fighting with each other for a minute.

Peppermint: But they ain’t helping, are they?

Abbey: No. I’ve raised my concerns with them, and they have decided to sit idly by while the Skald gets torn apart.

Hibiscus: The Skald is… getting torn apart?

Abbey: Mm-hm.

Hibiscus: What about Eden? And Keris?

Abbey: No clue. We don’t keep in touch.

Matcha: What about the Concord?

Abbey: What about it? We’re on our own—and I’m starting to get the feeling that I’m on my own.

Hibiscus: You aren’t on your own. We’re here to help!

Abbey: …Thanks. I appreciate it.

Peppermint: So… Beez… baby, what’s the deal with the boundary lines? If you know more than us, anyhow.

Abbey: I don’t know what caused it. There was—there is—something actively breaking it.

Matcha: Something? Or… someone?

Abbey: Heh. Yeah, it hasn’t slipped my mind.

Hibiscus: Well… from what we’ve been looking into, there’s an Archon named Snow… do you know him?

Abbey: No—pe. An Archon, though? Like—

Hibiscus: Abraxas and Eve. Yes. Snow… he’s… he is working with other Archons. I don’t know exactly what they’re working toward, but they wouldn’t hesitate to break the boundary lines to accomplish their goals. And there’s been an influx of shards of Snow’s power… or maybe essence? Various cults have been using them to power their rituals… including a cult run by your brother, Lucifer.

Abbey: Lucifer has a cult? In the Flipside?

Hibiscus: Mm-hm. They’re trying to break the rules of magic, more or less. Transform mortals into demigods. Into—

Abbey: Princes? What the hell is he thinking?

Hibiscus: No clue.

Abbey: Okay… I’ll look into that. Or try to. See if Eden will cooperate. As for the breaks in the boundary lines, I’m not sure what we can do. If I could… mm… “borrow,” my dad’s Stylograph, I could—

Matcha: Stylograph?

Peppermint: Noun. Dangerous thing. Shouldn’t really be messed with.

Hibiscus: Yeah… I don’t think “borrowing” the Stylograph to fix the boundary lines is… a good idea. That thing is more trouble than it's worth. We actually had an idea—or well, Liz had an idea. Is there a way we could “fill” the boundary lines?

Abbey: Fill… instead of fix?

Hibiscus: Mm-hm!

Abbey: Hm… one moment.

I saw one tonight—front-row seat. If you can call hiding behind a half-collapsed pillar “seating” and or “front-row.” But I did see one… one of the transformation rituals from start to finish. It was… <i>a lot</i>. But I think I’ve got a better idea of how Luci is breaking the rules of the Universe. It’s not… well—it’s probably not “good” news in the strictest sense of the word. But! It does at least tie into some other comfort food we were already enjoying. So… yay? Less work? Sorta? Maybe?

In any case… The center stage held their latest victim—er, volunteer, er, maybe a true believer. A middle-aged woman. Around her, acolytes formed a circle, chanting in a language that sounded like… nothing I recognized. Spanish? Probably not. Uh… Demon? Maybe? Or… no… I know enough Demon to know that wasn’t it. It sounds like “KCH-CH-CH-KSCH-KA-SCHWA-SCHWA-KCH…” does that… do anything for anyone?? Anyway—then out came the shards. The <i>static shards</i>. Just like the one back at the Cafe.

When the ritual officially started, the shards started to unravel. Not physically—no cracking or shattering, but their inner lights flickered and faded as if being drained. The lady stood there, arms outstretched, as the shard’s static poured into her body through her veins. It wasn’t immediate, and clearly, I only caught the very end of their last transformation because it took minutes for this lady to start twitching and contorting out of the bounds of reality. She did eventually, though, just like the last guy, though it was less dramatic. Like the last guy, she also died, or, as Lucifer proclaimed, “ascended.”

Here’s the kicker, though: the shards were also dead after. Empty. Cold. Like wrung-out rags. That’s when it hit me—this isn’t transformation magic. It’s <i>extraction</i>. Whatever these Snow shards are—whatever he’s made of—the cult is mining his essence, one shard at a time. And the shards? They’re finite. They’ve gotta be. Every ritual burns through their power, leaving behind nothing but hollow fragments. If Snow is the source, he <i><b>HAS</i></b> to feel this, right? Either Snow is helping Lucifer turn humans into shimmering nightmares, or Lucifer is somehow stealing these shards from Snow to do it.</span>

I’ve felt it tugging at the edges of my mind for days now, a faint whisper just out of reach—an emotion that is… foreign. Today, I couldn’t resist anymore. Maybe I shouldn’t have tried to link with it—not with everything we’ve seen so far—but the hum was too insistent, too <i>personal</i>. Like it <i>knew</i> me. Like it had been waiting for me. The connection—once I opened myself up to it—was immediate. It wasn’t pain, not exactly, though my body tells a different story now. It was… vast. Like stepping into the space between seconds, where time hangs suspended, holding its breath. It was—mm… sadness. Sadness for what was once here but is now… gone. I could feel it all around me, the static. <i><b>Snow’s static</i></b>. A cascade of frozen instants, a landscape of the impossible where memories flickered like dying stars and time condensed into a ceaseless buzzing noise. I saw moments—ours, theirs, mine—shattered and reassembled, each fragment glinting—no… <i><b>gleaming</i></b>—with sharp inevitability.

And Snow was there.

Not as a figure, mind you. Not in any shape I could name, but as an undeniable force. The air felt thick with his omnipresent gaze, hot and erratic, peeling back every layer of my being like he was looking at every pixel on a screen. He knows about the shards, about the Cafe, about <i>us</i>. I felt his… <i>amusement</i>. It wasn’t cruel, but it wasn’t kind either. He’s watching now, more intently than ever… His eyes are glued to a screen—<i>our</i> screen.

When I came back—if “came back” is even the right phrase—I was on the floor. My head felt like it had been filled with TV static, each buzz and hum obscuring something I’d rather not see. I—well, we knew the shards were connected to Snow somehow. But now I think these shards… <i><b>are</i></b> Snow. Pieces of Snow. Pieces of… this void that Snow inhabits or maybe controls? I’m tempted to try and link with the shard again… but I’m worried I won’t make it back next time.</span>

The Cafe feels… quiet. Not in a cozy, late-shift way. It’s the kind of quiet from half of our staff out… Hibiscus, Peppermint, and Matcha departed at dawn (or well, what Peppermint calls “dawn” and what I would call closer to 3 A.M.) to pick up some fresh Green Tea from Abbey. No clue when they’ll be back… or if they’ll be okay. And, then, of course, Hazelnut… Hazelnut decided to run off and pick up a Fast Food job without letting any of us know. I’m worried sick about him—but I know better than to try and stop him.

That leaves Cherry and Vanilla still holding down the boundary lines. Vanilla can’t do much to “staple” them like Cherry can, but she is good at finding them. Of course, Vanilla and Cherry (despite sounding like a great flavor combo) don’t actually work that well together. Cherry’s already tearing into local boundary repairs, barking orders like she’s running a military campaign while Vanilla buries herself in maps and data points. Between the two of them, I think they’ve got it covered at least, even if Cherry would rather just act while Vanilla prefers to wait and see.

And then all that’s left is me and Lavender. And we’ve got the shard to worry about. We’ve gotta figure out how they work, and soon. Lavender thinks the shards are some kind of “conduit,” a way to bypass the here and now. She’s got theories—*lots of them*—but nothing solid yet. Meanwhile, I’m trying to reverse-engineer their structure and see if there’s a way to neutralize or, better yet, harness them. Though, I suppose that should probably be filed under the TVS receipt chain… I just wanted to update everyone on where half our Cafe has gone. Mostly to get Green Tea… and one out to get a frozen treat in late November.</span>
